I was at the matinee the first
openingshow because my kids and I
have been waiting for this show!! The
show was awesome my kids were on
the edge of their seats! My daughter
was glued to Tomika from the time
she read the Playbill. I usually don’t
watch a character so closely but my
kid kept watching so I did. That little
girl was committed to her character.
A great little actress....and then she
opened her mouth to sing! Grier
Burke stood out in this cast because
that kid can sing dance and act! My
kids also liked the stylist and
drummer! Don’t miss this show!

I LOVED SCHOOL OF ROCK IN DETROIT!
Like most people I loved the musical
so I had to see the show. I’m not sure
where they found these kids but they
were really good. My favorite was the
little girl who sang a church song in
the middle of everything. SHUT THE
HOUSE DOWN. And when the piano
player played I almost jumped out of
my seat and started dancing. These
kids are amazing! The guitarist
danced across the floor. I’m not sure
how they teach them to not over act
but they were so believable. Go see
it!!

FANTASTIC...EXCEED MY EXPECTATIONS!!
I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY THIS MUSICAL ! ROCKIN, HIGH ENERGY, FUNNY AND FUN. OUTSTANDING TALENT! A FEEL GOOD PRODUCTION AT THE TOP OF MY FAVORITES LIST. IF YOU MISSED IT AND GET A CHANCE TO GO SOMEWHERE...GO! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. I HOPE IT RETURNS TO BUFFALO!!

ENTERTAINING!
Great performance by everyone! We
had great seats on the floor close to
the stage. Could see their
expressions and thought girl who
played guitar was super. We came
from NJ and the theater is easy to get
to via Patco.

SUPER AMAZING AND FUN
I am a grandma and went with my daughter. We are season ticket holders and have been
for many years. This show was amazing and so much fun. What a talented cast !! Bring it
back as we would love to take the kids.

GREAT SHOW
I wasn't expecting it to be this good, but it was
fantastic. The guy that played Dewey was
perfect for that part and had a great voice.
The kids were amazing. I would definitely go
again!

AMAZING SHOW
My wife and I loved the show. Everyone in
the cast was amazing. We could not believe
how talented all of the young people were.
This show is one of the best we have seen. It
is so nice to have the Staz Center so close.
Everyone is so helpful and so nice. We highly
recommend.

GREAT SHOW - GREATER PERFORMANCES
This was one of the coolest shows I've seen in a very
long time. The cast were FRIGGEN AMAZING!
Everyone played their own instruments live on stage.
The kids in the show we're beyond outstanding.
I could have sworn Jack Black was playing the lead
role. Take the kids, take Grandma, take a seat and
enjoy! Holly Crap, go see this show and...
STICK IT TO THE MAN!!!
Mary from Boston, Massachusetts
AWESOME
The play started a little slow for me but it picked up and ended up being fantastic. Kids were very talented. Great music, humor, and very entertaining
I recommend it for all ages

BOSTON SCHOOL OF ROCK
The show was amazing, the children are so talented. The entire cast did a great job. So happy it came to Boston!!

WHAT’S COOL AND WHAT’S NOT COOL.
The kids in this play are what’s cool. The kids
play their instruments and they play well.
There is one little girl who sings- Grier Burke,
who brings the house down! She had people
flipping through their playbills after hearing
her belt. The woman who plays Ms. Mullins
was AMAZING!
What was not cool - the Dewey Finn character.
Merritt J. You couldn’t understand a word he
said! His vocals weren’t the best. I’d really like
to see the kids again but couldn’t stomach
seeing him again.

SCHOOL OF ROCK’S “AMAZING GRACE” GRIER BURKE SINGS
Honestly, the children ARE the play. I
know it’s supposed to be about Jack
Black but you don’t really think about
the adults when the children are on
stage. The little girl, Grier Burke, who
sings Amazing Grace was the most
memorable in the show next to the
piano player. Those children gave
such an awesome performance that I
am giving them 4 stars. The only
reason I’m not giving 5 stars is
because there were times when th
adult ensemble actors
‘ scenes went on too long.

THE SINGERS STEAL THE SHOW!
So I got to see this show 2 times!
Once with a date and the second
time with my good friend’s daughter.
I decided to take my bff’s daughter
because she needed to see Grier
Burke and the little girl Iara, who
plays Summer. I am certain most
people just look at the kids playing
instruments, that’s nice, they certainly
are awesome (though I’m not
convinced the people in the orchestra
pit aren’t helping back up their
sound). If you go to the show be sure
to Watch these little actors. I’m all for
girl power and they were the perfect
images for a little girl to see! Tomika,
(Grier Burke) overcame shyness and
stood up to speak up for herself. She
sang beautifully and got applause in
between the song BOTH TIMES I saw
it. Summer, (Iara N.) has her own
song showing her being in charge
and it was a wonderful song! It was
surprising that she could sing
because they made fun of her voice
in the beginning!

ENERGIZING
SOR in Detroit was amazing. The kids performances were just fantastic. My husband & I
thoroughly enjoyed the show.
Rock On !!!

WHERE DID THEY FIND THESE KIDS?
This show makes you laugh, smile,
and cry! Yes I tested up when Tomika
sang a song pleading for Dewey to
come back and when she sang
Amazing Grace. I’m a sucker for
vocals and Grier Burke has them! The
guitarist was fun to watch as well!

LOVED IT
Kids, female lead outstanding- production fun and rocking

WORSE THEN THE MOVIE
Not a fan of Jack Black in any venue, however he was stellar compared to the Mirvish
production lead. The kids unfortunately, had mostly terrible music and lyrics to sing.
Much differed from movie. Not memorable. Stilted over acting. Disappointed.
See Charlie and the Chocolate Factory instead for some amazing talent.

LACKING CHARM
So, I saw "School of Rock" on Thursday. I quite
like this movie but any charm the movie has is
lost in the musical. The main problem is the
script. It rushes through the plot points to get
to the musical numbers. But except for the
songs that are featured in the original movie
the rest are instantly forgettable. And I couldn’t
understand a word anyone was saying as they
screamed out all the innocuous rock lyrics. I
mean, this is a musical and the songs are
supposed to help tell the story. What good are
they if you can’t hear the words? As for the
problems with the story, well, the premise is
that the kids are shy and awkward, but the first
time you see them they are singing and
dancing (and moving their desks) all over the
place. It’s great that the kids all play their own
instruments but progression from nerds to
rockers is just too short to be effective. The
lead tries his best to be Jack Black but again
there is just not enough story verses the frantic
musical numbers to get to know the guy. The
only charm he or any of the other characters
have is remembering what they were in the
movie. Some movies do work as musical and
even exceed their originals but this ain’t one of
them. I’d give it a pass!

ENERGIZING BUT DISAPPOINTING
We left this play feeling energized and the kids and the principal in the play were great but I could have done without the following: gay stereotypes, nagging girlfriend stereotype, some of the language used such as douche bag and slut (the audience is young) and what seemed to be a pedophile joke. We’re it not for these things, I would have given the play 4 stars.
Rochelle Rohlfs from Omaha, Nebraska
VERY DISAPPOINTED
After not being able to understand what the lead guy was saying or singing for the first 30 min., I wanted to leave. I had purchased two additional tickets for someone who had never been to the Orpheum and I was embarrassed. Yes, talented kids, but beyond that a waste of time and money.

LIKE A THESPIAN TRYING TO WRITE ROCK MUSIC
This did not translate to the stage. It was corny. The music lacked the punch with the exception of the songs they used from the actual movie. Movies shouldn’t be made into plays, especially when said movie is based on classic rock. Add the cliche social justice platitudes and this became the theatre equivalent of a popcorn action flick with no story.

SAVE YOUR MONEY
Intermission, where ARE you? I'm dying! All five in my party immediately jumped up and
put on our coats when Act I was finally over. It's like the movie, only with bad acting and
lots of dialogue converted into terrible singing. The lead guy is no Jack Black, though he
tries, at times. The kids are smart alecs, and the the whole thing feels kind of mean and
tone deaf for 2018. Plus, that theatre was burning up hot, and I could not see around
the lady in front of me, though I am sure I am taller than her. Sure wish I still had the
money and time I wasted on this sadomasochistic activity. I must have done something
really bad at some point to deserve this punishment.
Margie from San Diego, California
DISAPPOINTED
This would be an excellent Youth Theatre production but we were
disappointed viewing this as part of our season's ticket offerings at the
San Diego Civic Theatre. The kids were cute but the cliche story was
ho hum predictable and the acting was mediocre. When a retired
couple is spending $150+ for a highly anticipated evening of
entertainment we just wanted more than what seemed to be us
watching our grandchildren in their school performance. Sorry, thanks
for your efforts but thumbs down.
Lee Thompson from Los Angeles, California
FUN BUT FORGETTABLE
Schools of Rack at the Pantages was a huge disappointment despite extremely talented
youngsters and wonderful vocals by Lexi Dorsett Sharp. The same can not be said for
the rest of the singing cast. This is a cliche, predictable story and Lloyd Weber's music is,
well, lame. There are no memorable songs you sing or hum on the way out of the
theatre. Choreography? None, just everyone jumping up and down and one poor little
girll who looked like she was trying to shake her pony tail off her head. Sets, lighting,
and special effects were superb! But the sound system sucked; everyone sounded high
pitched and screechy. The show opens with a heavy metal band on stage (think
Aerosmith) but instead of heavy metal rock they limp through what I can only call a lame
Lloyd Weber sort of ballad. Personally, I do not hate anyone enough to recommend this
show to them. Very disappointing, despite the kids. It wasnt their fault.

SECOND ACT SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN THE FIRST
We were tempted to leave after the first act, so disappointing after our family loved the movie. The first act is flat and boring with more gay innuendoes than plot or character development. Second act was slightly better. I had hoped for a family show. The choreography was kids jumping up and down for two hours. Their musical talent was the best part of the show along with the principal. Bottom line- not with the time or money.
