Shucked is so much fun!
Shucked was corny and cute. The music and performances were fantastic! The costumes were on pointe and the set pieces were clever. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
Fun show, but lots of empty seats
The show was very funny--and very corny in every sense of the word. It was light entertainment with a positive message. If you're looking for something with the gravitas of Hamilton, this wasn't it, but if you're looking for an entertaining evening with lots of laughs, you won't be dissatisfied. What was very surprising to us, however, was that there were lots and lots of empty seats at Segerstrom. When I looked at other showtimes, it showed the same thing--lots and lots of availability. Very surprising for a show that won Tony Awards.
Entertaining silliness, but I couldn't make out half of the dialog
This was like an old-fashioned, thin-on-plot but heavy on the corny puns, full-of-singing-and-dancing musical. My seats were in the balcony. Was that why I couldn't understand what they were saying about half the time, despite the volume (which was almost painful, it was so loud)? My seat-neighbor understood more than me and laughed out loud. To me, a lot of the jokes and puns were real groaners. There was some great singing, fun dancing/choreography, and plenty to be entertained by, despite my missing a lot of the words. Nothing deep here, but some real talent on stage, and a few good, corny puns!
talented cast, raunchy jokes , too many genitalia references
The clever script and quips include far too many raunchy jokes and lurid genitalia references for a family evening. The cast, loaded with talent, is great, but but the raunch doesn't add to the storyline, it actually makes the characters seem one-dimensional. If you like lewd humor, you'll enjoy this, but don't take the kids
